You have to "rotate" your crops every few years. Example, corn has been planted in the same field. A different crop needs to be planted such as beans, tomatoes etc. I think the technical term is field fallow. It a little strange but basically the crops get used to growing in the same place and they begin to adapt and won't grow as well. Professional farmers know this and will change crops around in their fields. Good luck.
Take a soil sample down to the local Ag Extension office. The guys there will love to analyze it and advise you.
They can answer questions from home canning, all the way to when to plant. For free!!
Corn has to cross-pollinate, you must have at least 4 adjacent rows for corn to produce.
Are the stalks coming up, but not much corn on them? If so- then you do not have enough plants for them to pollinate each other.
You should get 3-5 ears per stalk.
Try planting something besides corn. You've planted it 2-3 years you've probably taken all the nutrients that corn needs out of it. you should always rotate your crops. do corn in one corner, tomatoes in another, potatoes in another, peas in another. then the next year just rotate them clockwise.
