Do you use the same chemicals in above and inground pools?

Question:Should the levels and chemicals be the same in an above ground pool as they are in an inground pool?

Answers:
There are minor differences but they are basically maintained the same way.

If the in ground pool is vinyl then you won't need to add calcium hardness to the water no matter how loudly the pool store yells at you about it. Calcium hardness does one thing, supply water with calcium so that it doesn't corrode it from materials containing it (plaster, concrete, gunite, tile, grout, etc). If you don't have these materials in contact with the water then you don't need to maintain it. period. The saturation index will say the water is corrosive, but this will not harm your plumbing, filter, heater, etc.

If it isn't vinyl then you do need to supply calcium levels to the water to keep it from corroding the materials.

Basically that's about the only difference between the two types of pools and it doesn't matter if they are in ground or above ground.

yes water is water and it's the water you are treating.
