What kind of bug is this??
Question:First I should mention I live in Georgia, not sure is this bug is native to our area because I have never seen them before until we bought our house. We have ever named this critter, we call it a Spant, it looks like it has the body of an ant, but legs like a spider. I don't know if they bite as we have never tried to pick it up. If anyone knows what this little bug is I would really appreciate the input.
Answers:
Is it this bug? I know this is mostly red, but younger ones are darker.

It could be the wingless wasp, also called the velvet ant. They have a vicious bite.

I am trying to find this website that identifies bugs for people, but at least you can use the one below:
U of Georgia's bug website below.
I think it may be a tick. They will go under your skin and drink your blood. Be careful they also carry Lyme disease and other diseases. Call exterminator to spray around your property.
If it has 8 legs it is an arachnid but I would go to your public library and get an insect book, they really help
Sounds like a female deer tick. They and their nearly invisible larvae can spread Lyme disease to people and pets. Search online for deer tick and see if it matches. Check your skin, and your dog's, thoroughly when you are back indoors after being in tick-infested areas. They like areas where skin folds, such as armpits, but can bite anywhere and will remain attached for 24 hours. Flea and tick sprays are good for keeping them off dogs.
