Cabernet Grape Bonsai--Do you need to be an expert to give one a long, healthy life?

Question:I'm considering getting one for my girlfriend, but neither of us is what you'd call a "green thumb." I know many Bonsais require a great deal of care and attention, and I don't want to get one just to slowly kill it.

Answers:
You have to have a good site outside that is protected but gets a lot of sunlight like a patio or deck.If the weather is brutal in the winter, you might have to think up some sort of protection.Get a plant already potted and training started. The bonsai that I have killed were covered in a mini greenhouse outside for the winter-and on an unusually hot winter day,got cooked.Maybe consider a tree suitable for indoor growth like a ficus to start out with.
