Help! Something is eating my butterfly bush?

Question:It's eating holes in the leaves. In a couple places there is a black tar looking liquid on the leaves. There are no slug tracks that I can see. What could it be? I did find 1 ant on it.that was in the evening. I didn't notice any today. It looks terrible.

Answers:
Spray down the the plant with a 32 oz squirt bottle filled with 1 part dish soap to 8 parts water. Yes... you need to use a full ounce of soap! It will not harm the plant and will work as a natural herbicide to stop the pests.
