Out of an area (yard, etc) citronella candles are good without the smell of spray insecticides.
Mosquitos are attracted to standing or stagnant water. Unless you live by a river or stream, you might have some standing water somewhere that they are coming from. If not, you can always use bug repellant with DEET on your person. Citronella candles are a good repellant as well.
in the outdoors use smoke like from those special candles that they selll at hardware stores like home depot, lowes, Ace and light them around were your at so it makes a "protective circle" and dont worry the smoke doesnt bother your eyes or has an overwellming smell
If you are referring to mosquito in an outdoor area, I use a device called a mosquito magnet and it is awesome. I purchased mine at Home Depot for around $150.00. It keeps the entire backyard of my home relatively mosquito free (approx. 1 acre). It runs off of a propane tank like what is used on a gas grill and lasts for a long time before needing a change of tank.
If you are referring to an indoor mosquito problem, you're on your own.
Bats eat a ton of mosquitoes. Many gardening stores/nurseries sell bat houses. Sounds crazy, but they eat hundreds if not thousands per night.
