About 2 weeks ago, you all helped me with the problem of flying ants.?
Question:I had an exterminator out today. He gave additional insight on the problem. There is one thing I can't figure out. He said they were entering through the railing on the sliding doors and windows, but if I secured them, then there would not be a moisture outlet for the doors and window, the area would rot and the metal would rust. I caulked one window, leaving airholes (hopefully not large enough for them to enter). I have not had a problem with that room since. I even soaked paper towels with insecticide and stuffed the top sliding part so that they couldn't enter that way. I can remove the paper towels in the fall when they are dead. My son's room still has a problem because I've not caulked it yet.
My question. How can I secure those slider bars to keep the flying ants from coming in and not be detrimental to the structure of my house?
By the way, the exterminator said that regular ants sprout wings and fly during mating and that they are attracted to water more than light
Answers:
Just spray them with insecticide and that should be enough to deter them, they won't stay long if they are only seasonal. Or hang up a bud zapper and an automatic sprayer like they have in restaurants.
