Where is the most economical place to fit a radiater and why.?

Question:

Answers:
Of course if it's part of a controlled zoned heating circuit will help.
To say under a window is not necessarily true as many times long curtains can prevent the heat from circulating into the room. They are often put under windows as it the only free wall space. With modern double glazed window units the cold spot theory isn't as relevant so it isn't necessary to site them there.

The answer to the question in an existing house could be the shortest distance from the existing pipework, this will save the plumber time if he/she doesn't have to lift floor boards or track the floor to lay new pipes.

It could be argued that if they were fitted on a wall to an adjoining room that any heat loss through the wall would be added to the adjoining room.
I'm sure that their would be some way to measure the benefit but most people look at room layout and place the radiator where it interferes least with furniture or visually.

under a window. if you have a radiator across the room, that half will be warm, and the window area will be colder. it just makes more sense to keep the heat near the cold to neutralize the difference.
under a window, circulates the hot air.
Was told it was sposed to be under the window for convection
i would say where it suits
but not under a window or near a door
The basic idea is to keep heat in a controllable area, and prevent it from migrating away from human habitation zones.

Multiple heat zones are best, preferably ones that you can close off. For example, having the bedrooms and at least one bathroom in one heat zone, and the rest of the house in another. This would let you heat the sleeping areas at night, but let the rest of the house get cold, thus saving money on heating expenses.

With this in mind, radiators need to be fitted away from drafts and near living areas. Keep away from the breezy hallway that's always cold, but fit one in the living room where people tend to sit while watching TV / conversing / whatever.
Tradition say under the window, but thats all it is. The person who answered about zoning was a good response but over the top for domestic use
