there is a product called snapshot 2.5 that is a pre-emerge herbicide. in other words it stops the germination of weeds from seed. this will not kill the existing weeds but will keep new ones from growing once you pull the ones you have out. other than that all i can suggest is carfully spraying round up. also if the grasses are growing in from the lawn into the beds then a good edger may help. hope i helped by the way standard roundup kills through the leaf so as long as you keep it off the leaves of the good plants you're ok
the best way to get rid of weeds and grass is to pull them.. and keep them pulled. After you pull all the weeds, cover the soil with a layer of newspaper then cover the paper with pine bark mulch or cottonseed hulls,,,,
i don't know of any herbicides that will effectively kill weeds and NOT kill your flowers
After you've pulled the weeds...
You could put down some garden mesh and then cover it with mulch if you dont want it to show.
Just cut an X for your plants to go through.
Yes you can add Pine needles to your flower beds, pull the grasses out that happen to pop up in the needles and you can spray the weeds with Round up only after you have covered up the roots of your plants.
Good Luck!
when you water your plants, mix them with rock salt .
Save the grass clippings when you mow and use them for mulch. Or you can buy mulch to use to keep the weeds down, but I would much rather use the grass clippings, they're free and they add nitrogen to the soil. Just be sure that you don't use clippings from your lawn if you've just had weed killer applied.
Pull any weeds that do grow up through the mulch and lay them on top to die and they become part of the mulch.
Good Luck and Happy Gardening!
