Rat infestation?
Question:im not kidding..there is a major infestation of rats in our garden!! i think they come up from the sewer and i always see them in the compost heap. my dads tried hammering some with a spade but it's disgusting and very messy! how can get rid of them? and would rat poison harm any other animals eg.cats?
Answers:
Poisons always run the risk of cross contamination so that should be considered before laying poison down. Physically attacking rats is also messy and can be dangerous for the human. Traps may be your best solution for this scenario also removing any accessible food source such as leaving pet food outside. Turn the compost heap to ensure the rats did not build a nest there.
Since you are not shy about the violent solutions if you are in a county are you can also use a .22 rifle to pick off the rats and provide some target practice. If you are in a city you may want to try an pellet or BB gun.
hammering them with a spade? all i can say it Cruelty to animals!!! i cant help u there im afraid im an animal lover and love rats,
There is a rat poison thats very effective, I never had a problem with it with my cats. Its a green block and the packaging specifically states its good for roof rats. Which is the important part to look for.
I would go buy a couple of nice hungry cats!
If you really want to put an end to those rats, you have to put an end to your compost. That always attract them. They also multiply in the heap, or close to that, as they are sure to always find food there.
