Vegetable garden and low spot holding water?

Question:for some reason, my vegetable garden slopes this year...we have had alot of rain, I still have transplants waiting to be put in ground. so about 1/4 of my garden is holding water. two rows are already black eye peas. I still have a good empty spot there. It will dry, but knowing this, what might do good there? any veggies or melons at all that would work, please. I have too many seeds and transplants to list.. thank you

Answers:
Melons might work, if it is sandy soil...it will help to drain better. What about mixing some sand in that area when it dries, this will help build it up and provide great soil to plant in. Plants need water, but too much of a good thing isn't good. Root rot can occur if left in standing water too much, and if you get any more rain or water heavily this could happen. Is there any way you could channel the low spot to drain out of the garden better? We've had a tremedous amount of rain and my garden looks all flat now!! I have my work cut out for me to create my rows again! oy vey! Good luck!

I would make a compost section. Use dead leaves, veggie scaps. You can try some herbs, Parsley, chives, or garlic. They will grow in anything. Regards-Bob.
i would try watermelons or cantaloupes they like a lot of water so if it stays wet for a while after raining it shouldn't hurt i have a 6 foot ditch behind my house it stays with at least 1 foot of water all the time and i have watermelons growing on the side of the ditch coming from scrap seeds and reins we tossed away
tomato s willl grow well in wet areas corn will also grow in floody areas
You need to build up your rows above ground level, so the seeds will not drown. Raised beds are nice, but probably too late for that this season. Get some soil and work it into the unplanted area, then dig the soil down and make mounded rows between lower channels where the water can run. Not sure I explained this well. Imagine wide wale corduroy fabric.
