How to keep the basement dry?

Question:How can I keep my basement dry? Are there any options besides a dehumidifier? If not, whats a good yet cheap dehumidifier? I dont need a big expensive one because my room is small.

Answers:
There is nothing less expensive by far, than a dehumidifier, but it needs a drain or you have to empty the tank.

you can try those dry cans they sell at the hardware stores. the can contains some sort of fragrant crystals that absorb moisture. when the can is full of water, throw it out and open another can. and if you paint your cinderblock or concrete with drylock, you can keep out water. i'm not sure how to keep water from penetrating the floor. home depo should be able to tell you that.
Drylok the walls!! This will stop moisture from entering through the wall. Now, take a piece of 4 x 4 aluminum foil and tape it to the floor and leave it there for 3 days. When you remove this foil, two things will happen. Either there will be moisture that has condensed on the underside or it hasn't. If it has, you can put down a concrete sealer(not a waterproofer) to slow down any moisture from passing through the floor. If you have moisture on the open air side, you need to use all three options, drylok, concrete sealer, and dehumidifier until humidity level is acceptable. www.ugl.com/drylok/...
