How many ants are in a colony?

Question:i kill about 500 ants a day, with hot water, Raid and squishing them but they just won't die!!! I come home at night and there's still hundreds of them in the dog's bowl and elsewhere!!!

They are tiny red ants btw.

If you want to stop them from getting into the food bowl, just put the food bowl in a larger bowl with water in it. Ants may be able to move a rubber tree plant, but the can't swim!
