I'm told if you hang little paper bags that look like fake wasp nests they won't come.
I try to find their nests. When they fly aimlessly, they are looking for food. When they fly in a straight line, they are going home or to a known food location. I wait until dark and pour a small amount of insecticide down the hole. If they have built the paper-looking nests, I give them a good soaking with insecticide after dark.
