What are these flying bugs called in my house?

Question:They are about half an inch long with dark and light brown and black stripes and they tend to be in our upstairs bedroom or in the bathroom. When I kill them, they leave a brown, almost powdery pasty smear.

Answers:
miglet bugs--they are poisonous--do not touch the powdery substance

either night moths or gnants, sounds more like moths they leave a powdery substance when you kill them
Sounds like Miller Moths. Try Googling for ID.

If it is, use either cedar or moth balls to keep them away from natural fabrics, they're the moths that eat holes in garments.
