What is the best way to get rid of squirrels?

I assume you mean in your yard, not your attic. They are very persistent and clever critters. It is difficult, short of trapping or killing them to really get rid of them. I have tried hot pepper powder in my bird feeders, squirrel excluders and defenders and all sorts of make-shift home remedies. None have worked. My best answer is: Make peace with them by putting up feeders that use dried corn on the cob and or squirrel feeder boxes with lids they can learn to lift. Both are available at Walmart. If you keep them full, the squirrels prefer them to garden plants and bird feeders. They don't go away, but they aren't much of a bother if you keep them busy and well fed.
Commenting on your additional comment. I discovered that the flower and bulb damage I thought was being caused by squirrels was actually being done by rabbits just before sunrise and just after sunset. A low wire fence or even plastic netting will keep them away. Good luck.
Squirrel gravy.
get a plastic owl an put it on a post where the pests are
try getting rid of the flowers
A dog will chase a way and greatly decrease the nuber of squirrels in your yard however unfortunately theres not alot of ways to keep squirles out of yards and bird feeders squirrels are very smart and can figure ways to get around squirrel baffels and all sorts of things.
Stand in your neighbours yard, and act like a nut!
Hot Pepper Wax . It works on bird seed , & is often used to deter rabbits & deer. Any kind of odiferous plant deters squirrels from eating what's with it . If possible , plant such things right next to the target plants . Almost any mint family member is good. Sage, & Greek Oregano are fairly unobtrusive . If you need something bigger, try any of the various Beebalms (Monarda) & /or Catmints (Nepeta) , that fit the bill. ( CATMINT, not Catnip . Catnip is just one of many types of Catmint)
Also , Matricaia , aka Feverfew ( Leucanthemum parthenium ) is good for this . Allium( ornamental onions) & Fritillaria are good , but as with other bulbs , die back & go dormant in midsummer. They are good for protecting tulip & crocus . Matricaria is a perfect companion for tulips . It's small, but still effective, when the tulips are in season , then gets bigger & fills the space , as the tulips fade .
