Bonsai help required - What to do with 'dead' branches?

Question:I have a Bonsai tree, it is growing well. But from time to time the leaves fall off one of the smaller branches and that branch begins to become quite lifeless. I was wondering if i should cut these branches off, or is there likely to be new growth from them?

The tree is a broad leaved evergreen (unfortunately i don't know the variety).

Answers:
Someone has already mentioned to bend the branches. This is excellent advice. However, we need to find out why the branches are dying. We need to first determine the species of tree to see where you are to keep it. If you can, send a photo to me at:
wchoat@american-bonsai.com , or if you can't send a photo, describe the leaf shape. It may be an outdoor tree, and if you are keeping it inside, this will cause it to die. Also, where do you live?

Bend the branch gently. If it snaps, it's dead and should be removed. If it bends there is still some life in there.
