Question:I live on my own and am paying more for my water than a family I know, I don't have a garden or dishwasher so would my bill be cheaper if I had a meter fitted?

Answers:
we use to pay £40 a month,£120 a quarter on billing, when we changed to a meter our last metered bill was £65 for the quarter with 3 people in the house, its definitely cheaper on a meter

Yes it would be cheaper, especially if you use a shower instead of a bath.
definately.I saved £220 per year by doing so
At laest you'll be paying for what you use. If you live on your own you should save money with a meter.
I live on my own and like you do not use very much water, so single people like you and me pay a colossal amount for water as a family of five! But if you can show that you do not have the means to pay the amount that they have stipulated you are allowed to pay a small fee per month sometimes as small as £10 per month, but you must stick to this. The Law Centre can help you with this area, they are extremely effective (although they are currently under threat). They cannot make you have a meter although the choice is entirely yours. You may find it a lot cheaper, but please remember if ever you decide to sell your home it is possible that a meter may make a sale more difficult!
People are under the misapprehension that it costs more with a water meter, in fact in the vast majority of cases it will cost a lot less. so in fact you can use more water...the water company will usually be happy to quote you some figures.usually the fitting is free.but check with them first...the only time it is usually more expensive is if you are in what used to be a low rated area and are a big family...if you are on your own you will generally be a winner.
Most probably. Best people to speak with are your local friendly Water Authority. They have average consumption figures for a variety of circumstances and usage per appliance. They will also be able to tell you whether or not you could have a meter fitted (joint supply or not) and can certainly help resolve your question.
Give them a call
There should be a point at which the water supply enters your property with a stop valve on it, As long as there is at least 200mm of straight copper pipe the water board can fit a meter without any problems, Hope this helps.
