How many kilowatts do I need for a standby generator?

Question:If I want to run just my boiler, well pump and refrigerator?

Answers:
My deep well pump will requires at least 5kW to get the water flowing. Once turning, the power requirement drops considerably.

Read through my home generator page for other information.

By not giving the ratings of those three items you make it impossible for anyone to give you a good answer. Add up the wattage drawn by those three, and multiply the total by 1½.

If your equipment doesn't give the power demand in watts, note the voltage it runs on, read the full load current or starting current (both measured in amperes), whichever is greater, and multiply the voltage by the current to get the wattage. [Note that FLA = full load amperes, which is what you seek.]

Remember not to confuse watts with kilowatts. (I assume you know that 1 kilowatt is 1000 watts.)
