Sprinklers on when it's raining?
Question:yesterday it was raining, it rained on and off all day.
going back home I saw sprinklers working I thought what a waste.
do you think like me that people should turn off their sprinklers for 2-3 days after a rainy day ?
some people are very lazy, or not at home
Answers:
I agree with you to a point. It is a waste to run your sprinklers while it is raining. Unfortunately, many people have their sprinklers set on a timer and don't think to turn them off when it has been raining. I have a system that has a timer, but I choose not to use it for those reasons. If the weather is cooler, I turn it on less often, if it's raining I will wait a few days before watering. I also use a hose to water areas that dry out faster so that I don't need to turn on the system to water a small area.
If it is a light or brief rain, watering your lawn while it is raining can be a good thing because you will lose less water to evaporation. Your lawn should receive 1-2" of water a week and deep watering is better than shallow (since it encourages root growth). So, if I water 1/2 inch and mother nature waters the other 1/2, I'm actually saving water by watering when it is raining!
