TRY BORIC ACID IN POWDER FORM, IT IS VERY EFFECTIVE AND SAFE....THE ANTS GET IT ON THEIR FEET AND CARRY IT BACK TO THE OTHERS
Cinnamon powder. I don't know what it is about the it, but ants stay away from that stuff. Otherwise, there's always Raid spray for ants.
malt o meal. the queen carries it to the other ants and it swells in their bellies and kills them
You can get spray's and bait at any home improvement store or local hardware store.

Try using vinegar. Put half and half water and vinegar in spray bottle and spray around door and any areas you think they are coming in. Also clean counter tops with it. A friend of mine swears by it plus it's a lot better than spraying chemicals around animals and children. Hope it works for you!
There's a product that Longs Drugs carries that's an ant bait and I can't remember the name it's something like Toro or something like that and it used to come in a white and orange package. Worked way better than the expensive Raid bait traps. The ants were climbing over the stuff in 15 minutes. It's ingredients were borax and corn syrup. So actually you could make it yourself with a teaspoon of pancake syrup and a pinch of borax mixed thoroughly brought from the laundry section in a grocery store. Within 2-3 hours there were dead ants everywhere. Plus they take it back to the queen. The key is to put the trap in front of their trail and let them eat it with out disturbing them. I have Ortho spray that I bought at the store for a more chemical way to keep them away. I was shocked how fast is works also and for how long.
Now for a more natural way I know my mom swears by ground cloves, but I think those work for the smaller ants better.
Now I do have a book that is very popular in our area and it states "1 Tablespoon of boric acid, 1 Tablespoon of alum ( can be bought in a drug store), 1 Tablespoon sugar, and 1 Tablespoon Flour. Mix all ingrdients together and place in the area where the ants travel." If it is humid it may crystallize and you will have to repeat the mixture.
If you have red ants "Hungrry Jack" instant potato flake will take care of them too.
If you can find the ant hill outside the book says to use Tide or 20 Mule Team Borax on them, but ut might burn your grass.

i use to use cucumber peels(safe for all except the ants)
to keep from coming in rub the area that they are getting in thru and if you know where the hill is i have taken half a cucumber put in blender pour in hill and in a circle about 4inches around it

i personally use camphor or if you or most people call it moth balls they really do work to repel ants by the back door, i am able to use this method because i have no pets besides birds or you also have to be very careful with small children.and they don't smell as bad as i thought love this better than ant spray
