Call an exterminator. Good luck:(
I've found ant baits to be useless, as well. I like two products but you have to be careful having them around food. One is the Combat gel and the other is the Terro ant killer. Both of them seem to work really well at our house, and I haven't seen an ant in a long time. You can get both at Home Depot.
Terro works great but you can't use it around pets, you just place a small drop on a piece of cardboard and it will take care of it. Lock up your cat first.
im not really sure about interior ant problems sorry, however, i know how to keep ants out of a humming bird feeder, put iron stake with hook for hanging the feeder and around the base of the stake put cedar wood chips. it really works! goodluck!!
ps. sorry i couldn't answer the original question :(
oh yeah, you could try spraying hair spray on the ants
once they were all over my bathroom floor, so i sprayed a dorito with hair spray, they ate it, then died
you can use DDT its quite effective but be careful neaqr eatables.
if you dont hav it right now you can use vegitable oil near the holes where they come from. you can also use a boundry of salt near the pot of food.
For ants on the counter top, wipe down the counter top with white undiluted vinegar. To prevent ants from coming into the house, or getting into cupboards, sprinkle dried mint or red pepper where they are entering the house and in the cupboards. If you know where the anthills are, make a mixture of 50 percent borax (sold in laundry aisle of supermarkets) and 50 percent confectioner's sugar and place near anthill. The ants are attracted to the sugar and carry the fatal borax/sugar combination back to the nest to feed the queen and other ants. Soon all ants will be dead. Do not put this mixture where children and pets can ingest it. To get rid of anthills, pour 3 gallons of boiling water down them. This is best when done when the ants are active and at the surface. Do not do it near flowers or they will die.
Try "Terro". If you have a Lowes near you, they sell it as do alot of other places, like Giant Eagle. You have to put a dime-sized drop on a small piece of cardboard and put it where you see the ants. Try to put it in a spot where the cats won't get to it. Initially you will see an increase in ant traffic, because they flock to it, and carry it back to their next and the queen. We have a slab house and every 2 years or so, we get a bad infestation of ants. We always use Terro and it works great!!!
This may sound silly...but as far as your cat food goes (which could be a big attraction for the ants, take care of that, your problem may decrease or be eliminated) build a mote around it. I had the same problem with my dog food. You can use one smaller bowl with the food in it and put it inside a bigger bowl with water in it. Doesn't need much water but in my case the ants never swam it. One thing that works well if you can find it in the right size is one of those salsa/chips dip trays. The one where the dip goes in the middle and the outside circle if for chips. Cat food goes in the dip section...water in the chips section. The trick is finding the size tray that works right. Also, (this works fairly well but is messy so not my favorite choice) you can put a thick (at least half inch) line of Vaseline around the exterior of your cat food dish. Ants can't cross it. That can be tricky because the bowl can be slick and the Vaseline will slide right off, but if you have the right container it works just fine. Good luck! Ants are such a pain!
Diatomaceous Earth !.
"To insects DE is a lethal dust with microscopic razor sharp edges. These sharp edges cut through the insect's protective covering drying it out and killing them when they are either dusted with DE or if it applied as a wettable powder spray. If they ingest the DE it will shred their insides."
