How do I keep birds from nesting in a vent on the side of my house?

Question:The design of the vent will not allow me to cover it with wire screen, and I rent, so no major reconstruction is permissible.

Answers:
Try to attach a pinwheel or whirly-gig (the type children attach to their bicycle handlebars) somehow to the vent. The spinning will keep them from roosting. I did this on my rentals to keep pigeons off the roof and pooping all over the walks. Looks funny, but it works.

Birds can be pretty determined once they make up their mind to build a nest anywere. If you rent let the landlord take care of it.
