How do i get rid of a massive slug infestation?
Question:backyard full of them
Answers:
Someone told me to sprinkle salt - just regular table salt. Don't know , haven't tried it, but it may work.
Slug Pellets/Powder
Home Depot sells pellets that will get rid of them.
salt. it makes them melt!
SALT does work, but it burns up the slugs, almost melts them really. It sure kills em off but when it rains the salt washes away and you have to re-sprinkle it all around your garden. Not sure if its cruel but its does work.
We use a chemical purchased at Walmart or Kmart called ortho. It is toxic for the slugs and lasts about a month per application.
other then salt the best way is to buld a pond (doesnt have to be huge) but this will encorage frogs who eat them
Get rid of any old damp wood , make sure all hedges / bushes and shrubs are trimmed back, get as much light/sun into the garden as poss, so it drys out. Randomly sink small pots into the soil, such as yogurt pots and half fill with beer . They go for the beer and fall in! better than using chemicals and pellets as birds may get them, however, you can get some environmentally friendly pellets. Better still encourage hedgehogs into your garden!
Bear put 2/3in, in a glass, cup, etc, put the glass in ground to 1in, from top of soil.
I would go with the salt idea. Sprinkle it where the slugs congregate, not very "humane", but the alternative is slug pellets, only problem with those is, thrushes love slugs, but are also poisoned by the pellet the slug ate. I tried beer, but they just kept coming back for more!!
using a very low sided pan, put about 1/4 inch of beer in the pan . do this in the evening.. next morning , there should be a number of drownd slugs! its safe and doesn't endanger anything else !
salt will do it, although this kills them. they will always come back next time.no, not the ones you kill. more.
Just sprinkle a little salt on to the slugs and you will clear them in no time at all .
ps the birds like a little salt on there food
dont water at night, Water in the morning they love wet locations and will come back every night.
