Do termites die when exposed to sunlight?
Question:I think I have termites but they are on and around the roof and chimney of my home. My landlord says it is impossible to have them outdoors because they can not live in an environment where there is sunlight. I can not find any info on line backing up his statement...HELP!

I had a problem at my apartment complex. There were these little bugs that looked like termites all over the place, after several hours their wings dropped off and they died, as the apartment complex had been treated for termites the year before and they had nowhere to go. Apparently these bugs arent exactly termites, but they are *seekers* of sorts, who find suitible nesting sites for the termites, and when unsuccessful die within hours. This may be where your landlord got his information, as Ive been told most people who suspect they have termites do so because they see these bugs and they generally die off almost immediately ( I cant remember what theyre called offhand) DEFINITLY catch some and do as another person already suggested and take them to an exterminator. Termites do not as a rule *live* outdoors, but as another reply stated... if they cant survive outdoors , how would they spread!
That is absolutely false. Termites can live in sunlight. Try to catch one in a jar and visit an exterminator. He will tell you what type of bug it it. Your landlord may either be ignorant, or trying to avoid paying for an exterminator.
What a ridiculous response from your landlord. Yes, termites can live in sunlight. They even sometimes have nest holes like ants. How do you think they can attack a tree and then attack a house? For instance your neighbor could have them and then in turn you could have a problem with them. They have wings too.
I don't know much about termites buy try this website.
