Want to move to roach free home?

Question:We are moving to a new house from this small aptment in NY. This apt has lots of roaches. How do I make sure that I do not take any of those roaches with me.

Answers:
You can sprinkle the bottom of each moving box with Diatomaceous earth. It's a fine white powder, made from the ground up fossilized remains of diatoms, a kind of sea algae. The edges of each grain of powder are so sharp that they make tiny cuts in the hard exoskeleton of any insect upon contact, causing the insect to dehydrate and die within a matter of hours. Since the action is physical, insects don’t build up a resistance. I think you can get it at hardware or gardening stores

For cockroaches in the kitchen, dust the floor and the cupboards, corners and cracks, under the sink, behind the stove. Even sprinkle some in the garbage can.

Another kinder and gentler way is listed in "Peaceful Kingdom - Random Acts of Kindness of Animals" by Stephanie Laland: she watched the roaches and tried to find something positive about them (she admits she couldn't) so she wrote a letter to the roaches and asked them to please leave her and her belongings alone. She put the note in the garbage can as a delivery system and she swears that for the remainder of her stay in that apartment, she never saw another roach.

Good luck in your new place.
