Get an egg carton put it on a cookie baking sheet then light it on fire just in one corner and let it smolder the smoke seems to keep bugs away and the smoke does not over power you, if you have a big area you might use it in a couple of places. Give it a try its a cheap way to keep bugs away and it works.
