My mother and I plant herbs every year, but every year something seems to eat them. We are getting pretty mad.

Question:We have tried everything, chickenwire, pest spray, we have even watched for hours. It seems whenever we look away, something has dinner. What should we do?

Answers:

planting herbs in hanging baskets...
Don't cha just love rabbits and mice?

Toss in the odd bird, and you're pretty much covered...above ground anyway.

What you can do is buy a terrier...after you put an underground extension for your fence! (Terriers LOVE to dig!)

Alternatively, you can invest in some scarecrows - especially the ones that have moving parts or emit random sound. If you live in an area that is essentially pet free, and don't mind being animal free, you can invest in an ultrasonic noise maker. However, they may also chase your polinators away. So that isn't a great choice.

One final option is to build a greenhouse and grow your herb garden in it! (Especially if you use raised beds so underground pests can't access the nummies!)
You could try planting marigolds right along next to the herbs. Marigolds are a natural pest repellent.
Sounds like bunnies to me..
Get the Herbs up off of ground level
Herbs don't need alot of area to grow in like veggies and they
actually grow better in containers. You can give then ideal soil and nutrients in containers as opposed to a garden setting.

Either use:
Large containers or large pots
Make a raised garden(2-3 ft off the ground)
or
Put them in smaller portable pots so you can put them up on a Garden table or bring them in at night.

Another thought ...is it possible that a person in the area may also like your Herbs and are coming by and taking some for dinner?
