Ever heard of a mangle?
Question:
Answers:
A mangle is a roller thing with a crank that they used to use to squeeze water out of laundry before dryers were invented. The clothes were inserted between two rollers and the crank was turned to pass them between the small space and the water was squeezed out.
No but I've heard of a mango. It's a tropical fruit you can buy at the grocery store.
Yes.
What is a mangle?
Mangles were the predecessors to dry-cleaning presses. They were operated by levers controlled with your legs, since you needed your hands free to move the clothing through the cylindrical presses.
They were quite effective and did a bang-up job in pressing clothes (shirts, especially). However, they were a little bulky, hence their ultimate demise.
Back in the old days they use to use "laundry mangles" to wash clothes. Big metal rolls/pins, attached to a wood or metal frame with a handle. When you turn the handle the pins roll. Might be used in a large container or body of water.
Notorious for "mangling" or mutilating peoples hands.
