Answers:
All the time my other half is always moaning we have too much "rubbish"

Ahhhhhh.Dumpster Diving!!

I do it all the time (not literally). I have found many items on the side of the street, mostly stuff I refurbished and resold!
one persons rubbish is an others gold
definitely!

years ago when they just came out...my first microwave came from the 'dump'
took it home and worked great!
only thing wrong with it was the light inside was burned out! I got a $700 microwave for less than $1-cost of a bulb!

remember...
one man's trash is another man's treasure!
two by fours, metal , chairs and such. of course!!
Heck yes, many have a "Throw it away I don't want it any more attitude." A friend drives thru three affluent neighborhoods on the night before trash pick-up and finds enough working appliances, TV, stereo, etc. to sell at a local flea market for over $500 a week.
Oh...yes. You can get some good stuff from other's trash!
One man's junk is another man's treasure.
More people should do it, less for landfill or burning
Why don't somebody collect these things enough to fill a container and send it to Africa Power to the people.
When I was in the Royal Navy in the 70's we used to get about 8 weeks leave after a two and a half year commission on a ship. Money used to run out half way through so we used to go down to the Council yard at about 6.30 am. If any of the regular staff called in sick they would take you on as a casual for the day and pay you cash in hand. Everybody wanted to get on the dustbin wagons for the pickings. I was always amazed at what people threw away. Things still in their boxes. We had a pepper grinder, portable radio, set of brass candlesticks, jewelery, watches, pictures (real water colours), tons of old vinyl records, books, cameras and a raft of other things. I used to get shouted at by the crew for spending too much time rooting about. I think I would have liked to work as a totter at a tip but life took me in another direction.
my hubby went the skip once to get rid of some rubbish, he then saw a man throwing away a computer (old like but worked) and he took it home with him. We had a nosey on the computer to see what was on it and found out that it was an retired journalists computer that held lots of info on his work. We had to destroy it and throw it away
The "Curb Couch" is a staple item in most college apartments. The old saying is "One man's trash is another man's treasure". Is summary, yes. I've made good use of things that others have discarded.
Absolutely, the times i have walked past little beautiful things that have been dumped and taken them is uncountable. I have a whicker chair, there is hardly anything wrong with it, nothing that a bit of tlc couldn't cure, i had a portable telly that someone through out, i had it for quite a while before it conked out. Also books that were left on walls to be taken and furniture with sad notes on them. Also a guitar, fancy dumping a guitar ! Lucky me :-)
Not exactly from the skips, but when people say they are throwing ' this or that ' out I say I'll have it,
yes I have
the rocker that sits on my front porch, several potting buckets, that now house my beautiful flowers, and my all time favorite, a water hose roller upper thing......its was great, several other items, such as a screen door for lake house fits perfect, and a park bench that sits on my dads balcony, its red white and blue, with stars, and my dad is very much patriotic. I think its fun, and we have left several items, an old Christmas tree, I put a sign on it and said, my name is charlie brown and I need a good home for Christmas, it was gone in like 3 minutes, a desk, a chair, a vacuum, some lamps, hey God says be ye kind to one another, and we are, we share our trash, and if someone else can use something I don't want or need anymore, praise God, and vise versa...just watch if you have the big green trash cans, twice we have caught people going through ours, we shred important papers, but not everyone does, they were actually looking for statements with ss#'s and account numbers. So please shred, and put bulky good stuff on the curb, not in a container...God Bless to all Love Becky D
Ever been to the junk yard...goodwill
Nothing wrong in that! Just because someone has thrown something out doesn't mean it not still useful to someone else.
yes its great fun . the proper name for doing this is skip hoking. ithink it a great way to recycle, i take alot of my find to a Charity shop ,they should have gone there in the first place. .my nephew a student has furnished his digs , with my help from the local dump(recycling point) we had some great finds
sure,
One mans trash is another mans treasure.
I find, re-sell and count the money
Oh yes.

I work around buildings that house's collage students & when they leave they toss out lots of good things.
I have not heard of that one but there are dumps that are use for rich people to throw their old furniture in.
Got a great mahogany game table from the 1800s that way and 3 WWI german army helmets plus other goodies. You know the old saying...
was that you raking in my bucket ? i want my telly back
I haven't, but there is a group on Yahoo! in the United States called "freecycle". The idea is if you have something in good shape, it's usable, but you are just going to throw it away to be carried off to the landfill, then post it on freecycle. If someone wants it, they post an e-mail back and you make arrangements for them to pick it up. It also works the other way around. A person posts a "wanted" and if someone reading the posts has what they want, they respond and arrange a pickup. I saw someone that needed some spare carpeting and hey, I had some to spare, so I gave it away instead of trashing it! I offered some seed packets, some moving and storage boxes and something else. Made a lot of room in my garage. I also responded to an offer for a snake tank. I don't have or want a snake, but I turned it into a tiny greenhouse to raise seeds in before I plant them. Used an old reptile tri light through a hole in a homemade lid and off I went! I have little baby plants now. Some are plants from seeds I got for free from my local garden exchange which is also a Yahoo! group. Some of my favorite stuff is free!
