What will save more money? Air on or Auto?

Question:We live in a double wide mobile home that is about 12 years old. Mom is a single parent with one job and tries her best to support the family. What is the best setting for the air conditioning system and to help us save money this summer. Our last bill was close to $400. Should it be set on Auto or On? What temperature also?

Answers:
The auto/on switch controls the fan. When set on "on," the fan is on all of the time, while the "auto" setting uses the fan to circulate air only when the system is either heating or cooling. The former setting uses more electricity for the fan, but in rare instances, constantly circulating the air keeps the thermostat's area from heating up more often, which can save energy.

The best way to save on your cooling bill, though, is to replace your thermostat with one that allows you to keep the house warmer when no one is there, but begin cooling it down again about a half hour before you get home in the evening. They can be bought at any home improvement store and can be installed by anyone who can follow instructions and use simple tools.

i live in a big home and find that only turning my ac on at night keeps it cool all day long, good luck :)
Auto is the way to go, the system will know when your home needs cooling that way. I cant say what temp, i dont know how hot it is where you live.
Turn it to auto and set it on 78. Once that temperature is reached, the a/c will turn off. It will then turn back on when it gets warmer than 78. If you leave it on "On", the unit will run nonstop, causing your electric bill to rise.

Use ceiling and/or box fans to circulate the cool air. Make sure the doors are kept close. Also, close all your curtains/blinds. This helps keep the temperature down.
keep it on when you want it..on auto it consumes more electricity..me like i always sit besides the cooler..Its too hot over here in Goa,India..
Auto is the best because once it reaches the temp that it is set on it turns off meaning the the air is not just running constantly. Also keep it set at 75 and turn on a humidifier. It gets so humid sometimes that people think the air conditioner isn't working and they turn it up. If you can take the humidity out of the air it should feel cooler. Plus if you are try to cut down on going in a out of the house constantly and try not to use the stove to much. If you have a grill use it! Use a toaster over or crock pot if you need to cook inside they wont get as hot as the stove and they use less energy.

I hope that helps. It worked for me.
