How do you get rid of sugar ants in the house?

Question:

Answers:
The key is to kill off the queen. For every worker ant you kill on the surface there are millions below ground waiting to take its place.

This mixture has never failed me.

1 Tablespoon Honey
9 Tablespoons Borax

Place mixture into a small container with a lid. (a small butter dish works great)

Punch small (ant sized) holes just above the level of the mixture to allow the ants to come in and get the bait. You may want to tape the lid down to ensure pets don’t get in to it.

The ants will come in and swarm all over the container and take the bait back to the nest. It takes about 7 days for mixture to really work. The worker ants to get the bait all of the way to the queen who distributes the food to the colony and they all die.

It takes a while and you have to deal with the ants for a few more days but the payoff is an ant free environment.

Clean the house
Get rid of the sugar.
Ant poison. You can get it at Menards or probably Walmart too. They come in little plastic things that you lay out close to where you think the ants are building their nest. After they discover it, they will send out lots of ants to get the poison food and bring it back to the nest, so don't freak out if you see more ants at first, but within a week, they should all be dead. Then you just have to sweep up the dead ants. :)
As for eliminating them ALL, I can't offer you much help, but I can say that while cleaning may help, cleaning with bleach will help much more. We get sugar ants in the warm months at the house I work in, and while it may seem impossible to get rid of the hundreds of tiny ants that show up at a food spill, a few sprays of a cleaner including bleach will kill them all off very quickly. So use bleach cleaners in areas they seem to congregate and hide.
I use a product called Home Defense. I have used a lot of different products for my rent houses and this one works the best. Spray it on all the base boards of the house. If possible spray it outside where the house touches the ground. I would do this about once a week for 3 weeks. Home Defense. You can buy it at wal-mart or lowes or any store like that.
If you are in Australia buy Antrid and top it up as necessary. The ants will carry this poison laced honey consistency-like liquid back to their nest where it is supposed to kill the other ants too. I had small black ants in my home, I don't know if they were sugar ants, but after consistently using Antrid for a few days, the ants all of a sudden disappeared.
