Is "Contorted Quince" (Chaenomeles speciosa 'Contorta') the same thing as Harry Lauder's Walking Stick?

Question:I have looked up "Harry Lauder's Walking Stick" plant and the species is NOT Chaenomeles speciosa 'Contorta'. Also - the walking stick plant produces catkins and my tag says it produces white flowers. I cannot find anything for the species that I have. What do I have?

Answers:
I'm not sure which one you have, as you didn't actually say. Contorted Quince is indeed a flowering plant; it's part of the rose family. "Harry Lauder's Walking Stick" is also known as a Contorted Filbert; it's species is Corylus avellana L. 'Contorta'. They are indeed two different plants, from different families and distinct genuses.
