Any tips on how to make my new house feel like home?

Question:I'm moving out of my parents house in a few weeks and in with my boyfriend, I'm really excited but scared at the same time! I just want it all to be perfect but I know for a while that it will feel a bit empty as we don't have much stuff! Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it feel like home without spending too much money for example quick home furnishings or diy etc.? thanks for your help x

Answers:
put up some photos of you and your boyfriend ...use neutral colors until you develope a style you like , ...put coloured cushions and nice throw rugs .less is the answer these days anyway so less furniture is often better...use a couple of inexpensive bean bags for guest seats make a focal point in the room a really nice vase you like or a small table etc. then arrange it how you want ...you only need somewhere to sleep , and somewhere to sit and either a desk or a dining room table other things you can get at yard sales or thrift shops and have a look through all the home magazines you can find also on the web there are hundreds of sites for you to get ideas
good luck and best of all enjoy the thrill of setting up your new home

Follow your gut instinct.
Use plants, and care for them. Get a dog, a cat, or your choice of a mascot. Personalize it your way: colors, furnitue and deco, so you get real comfortable.

Once you do that, dress everything with love.

Enjoy.
Go to Freecycle on the net. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycle... People are giving away stuff all the time on there & you can pick up some brilliant things for free. Of course, there are some rubbish things but generally, these are people who just don't want the hassle of taking things to charity shops or selling them. Don't feel offended at accepting second hand things - it's a good way of setting up your first home and you can always replace with new later.
put your own stuff in it..!
To start, put a lot of pictures around to make you feel more at home. I have tons of pictures in my room, and it's always nice to be able to look over and see a familiar face...put a few pics up of your parents and stuff like that. As far as diy, try buying some small area rugs just to add some color to the rooms. Good luck!
If you are anything like my daughters, you could start with your bed room, just scatter all your stuff all over the floor, leave the bed unmade, then you could do the kitchen, use about 10 plates to butter a piece of toast on and leav the plates handy near the TV, but mummy wont be there to sort it for you! Hows that for a starter?
Hope this helps?
car boot sales are excellent.visit pound shops and charity shops. you can find good, affordable stuff and enjoy your shopping.
with little bit of imagination you can turn old picture frames into art.use your own pictures or some dried flowers.if you manage to find some old lamps you can use your old jewelery to make them nice.
you can also ask your family, friends and neighbours to give you any stuff they don't need.

Congratulations on your new home.
a lot of young folk in your position get their furniture from Ikea so i guess that would be something you might think about or a good charity shop! one near me always have lovely furniture for sale and it can all be done cheaply but you have to search around and also Friday free ad comes to mind in (south of England)
have comfrting things such as a nice teapot/coffee pot and mugs on a little tray. cheap but pretty cushions and maybe some photos of you and your boyfriend and family on display
