How do I block the sun coming in my windows in an appealing way without compromising my window A/C unit?
Question:I have a window in my bedroom that the sun comes blaring through in the early morning- I get awakened at 5:30am for the past few weeks now...- NOT FUN! I solved the problem but just putting a neutral colored sheet over the window in the past, but now that it's summer, I just installed a window A/C...
I can't hang the sheet b/c the window A/C blows upward... I've got one of those roller blinds that comes in the solid plastic sheet that rolls up and down... but it barely blocks anything.
I thought about lining the BACK of the cream-colored blind with duct tape so block most of the sun... but I'm afraid you will see it throguh the blind.
I don't want it UGLY... it's bad enough that this horrible A/C is in the window, but I want the rest of the window to look at least somewhat decent! I have my curtains pulled back with tie backs, and they don't interfere with the air flow from the A/C.
It's the area above the A/C where the top sash glass is that's causing me problems!

If you want Pretty:
I have the same problem in my bedroom. They now make a cling that is decorative that you can put on your windows. It's a little on the pricey side but it works. I have had this cling up for 2 yrs and never had a problem. You can find it at most hardware stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware)
If you want practical and money saving:
Aluminum foil when used alone causes a black out effect and deflects the light so it keeps your room cooler and your A/C (if a window unit) won't have to work as hard. This has worked the best out of everything I've used.
Ok...ugly or not...aluminum foil works! Use double sided tape and make sure the shiny side faces out. It will reflect the sunlight out.
Install a screen on the OUTSIDE of the window

TRY LINING THE INSIDE WITH FOIL, IT REFLECTS THE SUN, VERY EFFECTIVE, NOT SO ATTRACTIVE BUT IT WORKS AND ALSO THEY DO MAKE ROLL BLINDS THAT TOTALLY BLOCK OUT THE SUN RAYS
