My toddler threw a toy at our LCD TV, causing $1100 worth of damage. Can I claim it on homeowners' insurance?

Question:A friend advised me to claim it, but I wasn't sure if I could. I always thought homeowners insurance covered items in your household in the event of an accident, fire or theft. My three year old had a temper tantrum and threw a toy at the screen. The friend stated this WAS an accident. Any suggestions?

Answers:
Yes you can. Your insurance covers everything in your house from accidental damage. Beware though your rates will go up.

yeah, that's an accident. it can't be assumed that your 3 year old intended to commit insurance fraud...
It wasn't an accident.

Go ahead and try to claim it as such, if you want. If they investigate the matter, then you take the chance they'll drop your policy and report you to other insurance companies.
Maybe you should ask your insurance agent, and ask him.
Yes, claim it. Carry in a piece of furniture, stage it to look like it was bumped and knocked over...and that way when the insurarnce company comes to see what happened, the television will be laying on top of the toy.
Do not claim it. In the insurance's companies point of view, there are no accidents, they will always view it as your fault. There is no such thing as a no fault claim.i found that out the hard way. It will go as a claim on your policy. After 3 claims in..i believe it is 5 years, they do have the right to refuse to insure you. And if they do, you will have a very hard time getting insurance again as you will be labeled as a high risk. The point of insurance is not for petty little things like a banged up t.v. They are for, if you house burns down, basement gets flooded, somebody gets injured on your property and sues. Serious issues that could financially ruin you.

But it is up to you, is an $1100 t.v. worth increased premiums for the next 5 years?
you have to check with your agent. Check out how much is the deductible for it too, let me know ..got my lawnmover stolen yesterday, i was thinking of doing the same thing. Keep eyes on your kid.he might be the next Roger Clemens!
Yes call your insurance company and talk to them.
