best thing for ants is stuff called "Nippon" which you can buy from garden centres, etc. It's in a tube, it's like a liquid, put some down on a piece of card or something and the ants go mad for it, they take it back to the queen and it kills her, and all the ants too. GREAT!
its very easy you just go to the market and you can find mostly from china selling these small sachets of powder. Just springkle some on the ants area and when they eat it your problems are all over they will disappear in a few days

I have a brick patio and had bad problems with ants. I tried everything including 40.00 a bottle stuff. I finally found spray by Spectride called "Once and done". I sprayed it last week and haven't seen an ant. It's only 9.95 at Walmart. It's a concentrate and makes 32 gallons of spray.
Ordinary talcum powder kills ants, they take it down into their nests. It works every time as it contains boric acid (or some such thing). Another good thing is that it's not harmful to use where there's children and animals.
Believe it or not, probably one of the best (and cheapest!!) ways to get rid of ants nests is to simply pour boiling water down the hole in the ants nest once per day for 3 or 4 days.

For ants in the house use a mixture of 3 cups pf water, 1 cup of sugar, and 4 TEASPOONS of boric acid. BUT, be VERY CAREFUL, as boric acid is TOXIC. Dont use it if there are pets or children in the area as they could ingest the toxin.

I use soapy water, it coats the ants with a thin film of soap and they can't breath. Just por some on the nest, when they come out pour more on them. The soap is good fertilizer for the plants in the yard too.
