Has ebay had its day? Do you shop there? Is there a better option?

ebay is no longer a good as it used to be .. the high postage charges have dealt with that .I still use e bay but not as much i use amazon a lot now as their postage is reasonable and they dont profit of it unlike some sellers of ebay
i use Ebay loads, however, i find there are far fewer bargains now. Too many ebay shops selling stuff for much more than a normal shop (plus having to pay postage on TOP of that). The cheaper items seem to go for more and have bigger bidding wars as people have twigged that they can re-sell them within the next few days and make a profit. However, it is good for selling (i sell alot of stuff on there) but vcan be a hassle sorting out posting it all!! I have made a couple of quid so cant complain!
I do still use eBay as I find if you look hard enough you can find some good deals. The first poster was right about shipping cost. It is stupidly high. I would rather pay £4.00 for something, and £0.99 for shipping, than paying £0.01 for the item and £6.99 for shipping.
I hardly find any bargins on ebay. Most of the items are just stuff that people are trying to sell off for a higher price than you would get it in the shop!
I suppose books are alright to buy from there.
No, yes, no.
I shop there but I check the high street prices before I buy. Ebay still works out cheaper in most cases and its great for selling stuff on that is no longer any use to me.
I agree about the ebay shops though, I try and buy from private sellers before the shops in most cases. Better service and delivery standards in general.
i bought a cd on there for 10p, thought ide bought a bargain but didnt notice that he was asking for £20 postage, i didnt pay it, some items are ridiculously priced for postage.
I think perhaps it has. There is definately not as much listed on there these days and it would appear most things are struggling to sell. Perhaps people are fed up of the high postage costs and the poor quality (sometimes) of the goods and the sellers.
Having said that i still like it :-)
I think that you are right. There is a business oportunity waiting for anyone who wants to start a new "no shops" auction site.
It`s good for cars, boats etc. though.
The bubble hasn't burst just yet, the number of users as wellas sales by number and by value is still increasing.
The biggest problem seems to be that Ebay themselves are spending next to nothing from all those millions they are making to ensure we are not getting ripped off.
I have used Ebay a lot and i see scam after scam which i used to report but nothing ever was removed, most of them are extremely obvious to an experienced buyer.
Anyone who thinks they will get protection from Paypal (which is owned by Ebay) is fooling themsleves, i know of many people who have lost out because Paypal are not interested if they are unable to recover the money from the other party first.
There are many other auction sites which we all need to start using more to break the monopoly which Ebay has, there are also auction search engines which will check many sites if your after a particular item.
I dont know if its had its day but its certainly way more expensive than when i started shopping on there 4 years ago! I used to get some real bargains and dont seem to anymore. Some people add ridiculously high postage these days too just to get more money and that seems to be the done thing. The postage prices generally put me off buying now

I dont use ebay anymore as the postage charges that people put on their items are ridiculous, I sold a mobile phone on there recently and it cost me £2.00 to post and I charged £2.50 to cover the envelope and padding but noticed that there were other people selling the same phone and charging £10+ for postage! Rubbish!
Yes - now too big and impersonal. Poorly regulated having little protection for users and those postage costs. There is a need to control the rip off merchants. I use Amazon but how long before they go the same way?
Well I hardly buy much from eBay anymore - I prefer amazon these days - and if i ever wanted to sell some items, i would sell them on Gumtree because its completely free!

You can no longer get a proper 'bargain' on eBay ... Sellers are greedy and charge too much ... and the postage ... well that should be illegal !
eBay is good for finding rare stuff that is most likely not to be found in regular shops, but for normal things, most stuff is selling at prices that can be found in the shops, plus the normally ridiculously high postage.

Read and see if you'd want to continue using PayPal or Ebay! No protection at all! Maybe there is, but for scammers only!
