Can you use Bicarbonate of Soda to raise the pH of soil?

Question:The pH of my soil is just over 5.0 and it needs to be 6.6 - 6.8.

Would it be ok to use a solution of Bicarbonate of Soda to raise it a bit?

Answers:
Yes, this would work.

It will raise the Ph but sodium is generally bad for most plants. Use calcium (lime) instead.
It might work but lime is the most recommended method especially for lawns...
It will certainly raise the pH quickly. It will also revert quickly.

The better option is to use marble chips or calcium carbonate. This will adjust the pH gradually and maintain it for longer.
Do not put anything containing sodium (soda) onto your soil. To raise pH, use garden lime or dolomite. These are calcium carbonate or calcium magnesium carbonate and harmless to most soils.
