How can I cancel out some of the loud noise from the bar downstairs?
Question:I just moved into a new apartment that is directly over top of a bar that plays loud music until 2 AM. Mostly it's the throbbing bass that keeps me from falling asleep; is there a good way to get of some of that noise?
Answers:
White Noise is what helps us fall asleep and deep bass is not white noise.(lol) You can ask your landlord about putting down the padding, but it's expensive or you can try creating your own environment.
1.Such as turning on a fan in your bedroom and I don't mean a ceiling fan either. Try getting a wind tunnel fan and if you don't like air blowing on you have it sitting close to your bed and turned the opposite direction.
2. You can also set a table water fountain near your bed so you can focus on the water. (inexpensive and sold at wal mart)
3. You can turn your alarm clock on it's timing radio so it shuts off and hr or 2 later but put something on that you can tolerate to fall asleep.
4. You can use ear plugs! I used to team drive in a semi and my partner always had the CB going and talking on the phone and I found a pair of soft ear plugs that would drowned out the activity but I could still hear my alarm which was next to my head.

talk to the landlord about installing noise canceling padding/carpeting. (some will do it or take off for improvements you do, that increase their value) Also lots of plush funishings and wall hanging, will all help to dampen the sound.
You put down sound proof padding on the floor, Then cover the padding with carpet.
Of course you will need the landlords permission to do this...
Personally, I would move.
The other two suggestions above are great also, cork tiles work excellent too. Use on walls.
