Is it economically sound to raise the thermostat in an office over a weekend or at nights in the summer?

Question:I live in VA where summers are fairly hot - it gets in the 90's often in the day. Is there any merit in raising the thermostats to 78 degrees at 5 PM and then lower it back to 71 in the morning?

Answers:
Yes, that is a good idea! It will save a lot of energy. Why keep the office cool if no one is there?? Hopefully the thermostat is programable so you can just set it and not have to worry about it.

I do this at home. It helps the a/c unit because it doesn't have to work as hard to cool.

I live in Texas and I set mine at home on 80 when I'm gone and 78 when I'm home. If you use these temps, and use fans, you won't have to turn it down so far (which costs more).
Get a digital thermostat that adjusts the temp according to your programmed times. You will save a lot more than you think.
