How much is your electric bill every month during winter?

Question:my friends and family all tell me how much their electric bill is and some of them say under $100...

during the winter we dont use air conditioning (obviously) and our bill was always $150 or higher...this past month it has been HOT and we arent using the A/C yet becuz we want to wait as long as possible before we turn the A/C on cuz its so expensive...

this month our bill is $180...is anyone else this high? if not, why is mine so high every single month?? when i use the A/C it will shoot up a couple more $100...

what takes up a lot of electricity that can help to bring my bill down??

my house isn't that big neither, if thats what u are wondering..

I agree with the energy audit, mine was very telling. But, you can also check your utilities website. Ours offers an energy calculator that tells you how much an hour it costs to run certain appliances, power tools, lighting, etc. It helps make better energy decisions, like I'll spend 1 1/2 cents to run a fan, but not over 1$ per hour to run the AC. We don't run our heater during the winter, but our highest bill was $550 because of the Christmas lights and decorations.

I live in the state of MN and our gas+electricity is way higher than that. You shouldn't complain..lol...in the winter, it's higher than 200. In the summer, it depends if you turn on the A/C or not, but it would be 150+.
Do any of your family members have gas or propane as well-that would make a difference for their bill being lower than yours. It will also really depend on the type of furnace you have. We had a 20 year old POS last winter and ran around $250 a month, and during the summer with 2 window AC units it was around $160. We got a new one and this winter the highest bill was $182 during our Ohio blizzard and last summer it ran around $80-$100 for running the AC. Ours has a heat pump which makes the difference. The amount of insulation in the home will also make a difference. If you rent-talk to the landlord and see if everythign is working okay. If you own, look into something new or doing some insulating which will help during the winter (heat in) and summer (keep heat out). Water heaters, washer & dryer, and running the oven all make the bill go up. Good luck-been there done that!
ha.. I would kill for a bill that low. We live in North Florida ( family of 6) with well water, electric AC/Heat and water heater. Our house has a second story loft and is 2800 sq ft. under air. Our last bill was $386.14 and it will hit $450.00 at some point in the summer. We all turn the air to 81 when we leave for the day and always turn off the lights ect. I guess we have just learned to deal with using about 3000 KWH per month and paying for it.
My summer bill is generally low but during the winter my normal bill is between 300-400. I live up north
I would suggest getting an energy audit from your local power company. They can find out if you are consuming more than the normal amount of electricity.

I lived in a one bedroom apartment and my winter bill for electric heat ran around $100.
