This could indicate settling or other problems with the foundation, or it could be only cosmetic. You would need a qualified home inspector or contractor to check it out for you.
Good Luck!
If there are few hairline cracks in masonry, that is normal and not a big concern but should be repaired by the sellers. If the cracks are opened up a quarter of an inch or if the brick face is coming loose, run for cover, that is probably foundation failure.
before you ever finalize any sale, always get a home inspection. it could be the home settling or a must more serious problem. an inspection saved me from buying a cosmetically beautiful home. i loved this home and showed all my friends. closing was in three days and we had the inspection done. it had more things wrong with it that were hidden or painted over. my inspector called it the nicest candy coated home he had ever seen. in fact, he called me the next day to make sure i didn't buy it! good luck and i hope it turns out to be a small problem for you!
Is it an old brick home? Repairing brick may be cost prohibitive? I would ask the owners about it? Then, call a mason to find out how much he thinks it will cost. There may have been ivy growing up the walls which really weakens the brick to where the mortar falls out. Then there will be water damage. Ask lots of questions!
Sounds like it has a bad foundation, aka, the house is sinking on one or more sides. It can be fixed, though. Contractors dig a big hole around the foundation and use hydraulic jacks to raise the house then prop it up. Fill in the hole and you got a new foundation. My grandma fixed hers on one corner for around $5000
I have a 50 year old home and the only bricks have cracks are some in the chimney. I really don't think any bricks should be coming out of the home after just a few years. If that's what you can see, imagine what you can't see wrong with the house. If you do decide to proceed, get a home inspection and pest inspection prior to signing. Then renegotiate the price based on what the inspector and your real estate agent say.
i dont know what was wrong. It's a beautiful house house though
