Household products that get rid of ant hills?
Question:are there any household products that can get rid of ant hills around the bases of trees? we have been trying some different ant killer things but they seem they are still there! Can you give some different stuff to get rid of ant hills?

A friend of mine once told me that an effective method to get rid of ants was to use a mixture, equal parts of icing sugar mixed with baking soda. The ants eat the ising sugar along with the baking soda...
Ants cannot pass gas and therefore the baking soda will actually blow them up.
I do not know if this works as I have never personally tried it. If you do attempt this please e-mail me with the results...I am curious as to whether this will or will not work...it does make sense.

My husband and I have used bleach, but I don't know if it will hurt the tree.
Go to the grocery store and get some Instant grits...sprinkle some around the ant hill. The ants will take the food back to the colony, it will swell when they eat it and kill the ants.
Its safe to use around pets and kids too. Just make sure you get the instant.
Sprinkle CINNAMON on the soil. It smells good, too.
Ants and roaches will not cross a solid line of BORIC ACID. But you have to be careful because it's not good if your pets eat it.
This also worked: Make a solution of SUGAR and WATER (try 2 cups) so it's very sweet, then add 2 TB BORIC ACID and stir well. Take a jar and lid and punch a few holes so the ants can get in. Dip several COTTON BALLS in the solution, put them in the jar, and put the lid on. This is supposed to kill them in the colony. You will find dead ants around the jar, too.
