What's the best way to get rid of mice in the house! And please don't bother with any humane answers
Question:Had mice for a few weeks now, keep putting the traps down and keep catching them, but they keep on coming. How many mice could there be??
Answers:
The first thing to do is try and find out where they are getting in. Mice can fit into holes that are the size of a dime and larger. Check around any dryer vents, rain gutters, a/c duct work or wiring, etc. When you find the holes, and I am betting there are more than one, stuff it with steal wool and secure it in place with expandable foam. Mice have very sensitive teeth, so they will not chew through the steal wool, where they would chew through straight expandable foam.
Inside the house, you can use snap traps and glue boards. Good luck. If you need more help, e-mail me and I will see what I can do to help.
I have not heard of or found any better way than good old fashioned mouse traps. If you see a mouse, you probably have a least three if not more. Set a least a couple traps in places that you have seen them. Use the lean part of bacon as bait, it works wonderfully. Keep going with the traps until you don't catch any for at least several days.
get a cat.
we were only talking about this last night and my neighbour told me if i got a blanket or something a cat was sleeping on and leave it in the problem area the mice will pick up the scent of the cat and wont come back its worth a try
Do you live where it is cold? Odd to see alot of mice in the warm weather. Get a very hungry cat! Also call an exterminator. Poison they eat and hide and die and then start to smell up your house. Although I have heard there is a kind out now that will not let them smell. Good luck.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I have a humane solution! BUT, it is guaranteed to get rid of all mice. No need to get a cat, or use a mouse-trap...
Just use one of those electronic ultra-sonic devices. They scare away all pests (e.g. mice, rats, ants, etc)... every single one of them! Yep, they really do work.
Don't delay! Buy one today!
*cough* I'm sorry, I got all hyped-up there... o_0
Use a good rat poison. it really works. had a similar problem and I caught 21 mice in traps but there seemed no end to them and I put down rat poison and the mouse empire was gone and they did not come back. In fact I still have an unopened portion waiting should I encounter another invasion.
one sonic plug in thingy. couple of baited traps and a cat or two - next doors will do so you dont have to worry about feeding them.
put rat posining and a couple of fake snakes in your attic/ pantry or wherever they are. it got rid of my rats in a week. or just get a cat
no doubt the best thing is to get a cat, i'm not a cat lover but they do seem to do the job
There are some plug things you can get that emit a high frequency sound that drives them away. I've never had to use one so I don't know how good they are! I had a problem with rats previously and to get rid of them I got some hair from my mum's dog and put it near to where they were getting in. The smell puts them off.
If there are a lot, you may need to call an exterminator. I wouldn't recommend getting a cat just for this purpose, but if you already have one, he/she is probably having a ball. The traps and/or poison should do the job if there aren't too many of them. There are sonic pest repellents which supposedly annoy them into leaving (I don't know how effective they are, but it is an interesting idea). If your place is really infested, an exterminator may be the best way to go.
First get rid of stale food etc that may be around. They like soap, paper and cardboard also. Get the council to put poison down. (It may not work though, as they get used to it!) Then if you spot any, try and cover them with a glass or container, slide cardboard underneath. Pick it up and dispose of mouse.
That`s what we did anyway! We had mice for months, at least a dozen until recently. All gone now I hope!
Rodentine. You can get it at Wilkinsons or any hardware shop. Careful where the kids or pets are but its magic stuff. Two weeks and you will be vermin free.
Make sure there is no food for them to feed on, they only come into the house for food, find out where they are entering the house and block it up, keep using the mousetrap and gradually there will be none left. It is unusual to have mice in the house in mid summer as there is usually enought food outdoors, so there must be ample and easier access to food in your place
I have a great fear of mouse so i think the best suggestion is to block all the holes you know they are getting in from with steel wool and leave as much bait as you can out, give it a couple of weeks and if that doesn't work do what i would do and that is to move out until they have gone. Good luck
put down little bowl of mouse poisin where you know the mice have been visiting, keep replacing them until the food is no longer eaten, works every time!
someone told me that chocolate biscuits also kill mice as they can't digest the chocolate, i can't verify that it works though.
good luck!
adhesive sheets work very well,
u will only have them if there is an available food source
once on the sheet you then need to dispatch them
use a buc ket of water chocolate is a good bait
I have used sticky traps with good results. And put just a little dab of peanut butter, chocolate (something sticky for bait they have to work for and not solid like a nut they can snatch off without going into the trap) right in the middle so they have to reach for it and get stuck I feel the same as you the mice need to die if they are in my house. Another method that worked for me was using an empty toilet paper tube with a dab of peanut butter at the end and I let that hang over an edge (like a kitchen counter top where they are active). Make sure you flatten the tube you use so it stays flat. No danger to the mouse until it gets in the tube and gets the peanut butter where its weight will make it fall into what you have waiting below- if the mouse is trap shy which they might be. It could be a tall bucket (over 12" high or else they can jump out you could put water in it if you want them to die in the bucket) or in my case I had it fall right into a glue trap. Incidentally it ran right past other glue traps I had laying on the floor in the path and went for the tube. This method worked for me in a crawl space. Place the glue or snap trap near the walls as mice tend to hug walls when they run due to poor eyesight. Link with illustration to this tube setup:

Also for a permanent fix you MUST seal any hole in and outside your house that is over 1/4" diameter. If you can fit a pencil in it than a mouse can get in. Seal it with something a mouse cannot chew thru like steel wool, concrete, sheet metal, hardward cloth. I used a combination of steel wool and expanding foam insulation and sheet metal on another hole. Make sure all your door strips and screens have no holes in it. In my house I had 2 1/2" holes where they came in and they have been plugged up and I have been mouse free since then. they were where the HVAC tube was for my AC and in a spot on the roof where they got into the attic. Sorry for the long winded post but I just got done eradicating my own mice in my house.
