Which brand makes better mattresses, sleep number or temper pedic ? Why?

Question:please don't say "It's your own preference" just say what you feel is better

Answers:
sleep number as it coforms with your back

I have a Select Comfort, my mother a Temper pedic.

I love the Select Comfort because you can adjust it depending on your support need from day to day ...or hour to hour. I have an older model so the mattress is not as high as regular mattresses so my sheets don't fit snug. (ok, not critical, just frustrating) I believe they have make the mattress taller now. Problem with Select Comfort is if family dogs get onto the bed and they are large. They can cause the bed to lose air (bed is compensating for extra weight by releasing air to maintain number) Result is next time you have to "pump" the bed back up. If it is just people on the bed, no problem. Another part I like is the internal parts can be purchased new. For example if you sit on the bed side to dress each day, you may squish down the internal foam bumper inside. Call the company and they'll send you new ones. Unzip the mattress and exchange the parts. Easy.

My mother hates her Tempur Pedic. She finds the foam doesn't breath enough for her so she wakes up in the middle of the night in a damp depression. She's tried extra mattress covers, different sheets, etc to no avail. Maybe someone younger with a cooler body metabolism or bedroom wouldn't have the same problem.
We had a sleep number bed and sent it back before our trial period was up. The thing that we didn't realize about the sleep number bed before we bought it was that there, of course, are two different air chambers. On either side of the bed and between the air chambers is a four inch pad, so that reduces the sleep number portion of your bed by 12 inches. Although that doesn't sound like much, we found that you had to sleep just so to get the benefit of the sleep number system. The sleep number bed would be best for someone who slept on their backs in the same place every single night. We just don't do that so we got rid of it. My wife wants a Tempurpedic and we've looked at them but I'm not convinced yet about spending the money.
