Do avocado pits rot?

Question:I want to make my friend a bobble head out of avocado pits (don't ask) but I'm worried they'll decay and rot.do they?

Answers:
They get mildew on them. It is really grey fuzzy mold actually. The moisture content in them is too high.

Yes, they do.
You can let them dry but then they will crack. If you don't mind the cracks, you can put shellac on them after they are dry to prevent growth.
I'm glad you asked that question. In years past avocado pits used to stay a long time in their pit shape. But for some reason or other this past several years I've tried to use them to start a plant, they have shrunk and gotten hard before I could even get them out to the yard. So my answer to you would be no, they don't stay well to use anymore on anything. I would suggest either a piece of material sewed together (or made in a circular form to make a head then secured by a rubberband), to make a head and stuffed with toy stuffing or cottonballs or an old sock or a pantyhose. Or even a ball of styrafoam might work for your purpose.
