How can I EASILY (like by mail) recycle a mercury thermometer?

Question:Most of the programs I find require me to drop it off someplace far away on a specific date a month from now, etc. I just want to mail it to someone who will dispose of it properly today.

Answers:
Most cities/towns have a recycling area, call your local DPW (department of Public Works).

The other option, for a while, my local Post Office was collecting the mercury thermometers. (Like the batteries and eyeglasses). You might want to try there.

Your city should have a once a year hazardous materials collection contact them to see when it is ... or contact your local fire station and ask them.
your local state may have a EPA phone number that you can call... 1800 number... Environmental protection agency...they are experienced in that sort of thing... The U.S. postal service will not ship any hazardous or biohazardous chemicals through the mail... hope this helps.. goodluck
