Never worked on me. Darn bugs kept on biting!
Yes it really gives you cancer, an itch or another second manifastation. How do you think it repells insects? by hurting them... yet they are smaller they are imediat hurt while in your case time will tell how.
Deet works really well against mosquitoes, but does nothing for gnats. I have never found anything to repel gnats.
