Entry by the utilities?

Question:Does the gas and electric companies have an automatic right to access your home to read the meters etc.?

Answers:
they will have to read meters every 6 to 12 months. If they cannot gain access they can (normally after 2 years or more) get a court order to visit the house. They CAN then break in to your home but of course the police will be with them

NO, they have to call and set up a time with you before they can enter the home.
If you don't let them read the meter, they'll do an estimate on the bill and possibly charge you more than they need to, so it's always best to let them read it.
your property is private property just by your deed itself. But now they have it so meter readings electronicaly get relayed right to the station. My Nstar people never come to the house anymore since they put in the new meters about 4 years ago.
NO...They have no right. Some houses have meters built outside and they are allowed to inspect.
If you don't let them in they can apply to the magistrates' court for a warrant of entry then force their way in,
